Hokkaido is a Japanese island located between the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. It is the second largest island in Japan. Its capital and most important city is Sapporo. The island has long been the home of the Ainu people. It is separated from Hoshu Island by the Tsugaru Strait, although they remain linked by a long Seikan tunnel that passes over the sea.
Hokkaido is known for its cool summers and extremely cold winters making it popular with the Japanese as a "Hiking and Winter Sports Paradise".
It is famous for its six national parks; including the largest in Japan, Daisetsuzan. In addition to its high amounts of hot springs formed by volcanoes.
Some of the activities that can be carried out on this island are:
-Rent a car and discover the island for free. (The perfect "Road-trip") Visiting places like the many fishing villages or the fragrant sulfur baths.
-In Daisetsuzan National Park, walk through the incredible rooftop of Hokkaido, discovering volcanoes, wild landscapes or "onsen".
-Enjoy the snow and the beer in Sapporo, a city with a great nightlife, where you can eat good food and taste the typical beer of the area.
-Go to the "Sapporo Yuki Master" festival, characterized by the many ice statues.
-Visit the "Noboribetsu Onsen", springs with waters that have many minerals and that come from a volcanic pit.
In my opinion, it is a great place to go on vacation to try snow sports such as skiing or snowboarding, also to bathe in the hot springs or to try the traditional food of the area that is very famous. It is a perfect place to relax and have fun.
